Naughty List

This may sound harsh, but this is a teacher that is venting. I just spent time grading Exams of those who were able to use their notes. It was an OPEN NOTE EXAM... prior to today we spent more time 'copying' vocabulary and terms word for word from the overhead and they were able to use these on their exams. I then created an exam 'word for word' to the vocabulary given. You would of thought I gave a completely different subject test. I'm so disappointed.

Then today is the last day for my 1st period to turn in their work. I reminded them they needed to turn in their Color Wheel project. Instead of getting their work, they sit there and goof off and play on their devices. It's not until 20 minutes before the bell that I call out the kids that are still missing theirs that they finally scramble and get their work together.

Sorry for venting.

Long time no Post!

I'm so sorry for not posting sooner. I've been having Wifi Internet issues and for some reason or another Blogger was blocked. Strangers things have happened.

Okay, so what's going on.
All classes are finishing up a Value Scale project. I will post pictures soon.
Art 1 projects are due today. My 1st, 2nd & 4th period's have earned the chance to redo/fix their previous project "Different Ways to Shade". So tomorrow after the PSAT test & Thursday, they will have that chance. My 6th period will have to come in on their own time to fix theirs. They lost their chance for not wanting to listen to me explain to them how disappointed I was in their grade. They will have other work to do instead.

I have posted grades today too, so students can see what they are missing. The end of this 1st 9 weeks in on October 24th!

Picasso One Liners

I stumbled across a book last year while looking up Contour Line drawings. It's called Picasso's One Liners. Amazing to me to think he drew with only one single line. This inspired me to have assignments based around this. I had always done this, but never to this extent. So my Pre-AP and Draw 3 kiddos will be introduced to One Liners today and then they will practice to perfect it then they will begin a Project. I am attaching images of Picasso's work along with my 'idea' for a project.

This week!

Art one Portfolio projects were due on Monday. Students had until the end of class on Monday to finish. I started taping portfolios (to make them a pocket) that were ready to be taped.  Students have the opportunity to come in on their own time or if there is down-time in class to finish if they aren't finished. It is their responsibility to get it turned back in for a re-grade.

Tuesday - Art 1 - Students started exercising their brains again. Training their eyes to be an important tool when it comes to drawing. They created Contour lines of hands and objects.

Wednesday -today- Art 1- Exercising the brain once again! Starting their next project "Upside Down Man" This will go on for a few days. They are encouraged to fill their paper and if parts of the guy doesn't fit, then that is okay. Tomorrow I will explain the rest of the criteria and that criteria will then be posted on here.

Draw 3 & Pre-AP Classes - Portfolio projects are due Today Wednesday. They too are encouraged to come in and finish it on their own time. Starting tomorrow they will start thinking Contour lines and will then create a piece of art using just that, Contour Lines.

Grades Continued....

I am hoping to get the Assignments that have 'Practice' into the grade book soon. I have students that are using their practices to create their final project. I will call for all of them tomorrow (Friday) and hopefully I can get those grades in by next week. Just an FYI.

The Hands assignment... same thing, students are either still working on these or never started, just due to schedule changes. I will round these up and get them all posted soon also.

Thank you for being patient.

FIRST WEEK STUFF!!!

First Weeks aren't always the same but for me I try to keep it simple and Crazy FREE. The first couple days kids are still in a daze from summer, trying to figure out where to go, schedule changes and getting bombarded by the 'Nitty Gritty' of the school year.

I like to start out the week falling straight into getting creative and working on their first assignment.
My Art 1's and 3's are doing a Circle Activity and my Pre-Ap's are working on a still-life. I offered this also to my Art 3's so there are a few that have chosen to challenge themselves. :)

Today I am going over some Expectations of the class and informing my students about what they may be touching base on in here. Then they are to continue on their activity from yesterday. Those that finish they are to go onto another assignment about Personal Vows. Vows that they will hold on how to be in class and treat each other.

Tomorrow will be my Nitty Gritty!!! Rules and Procedures!!!! WOOHOO!!!!

Thursday will be Social Media day. Media Releases and Personal Surveys.

Friday will be Journal Building day/Sketchbook outlines etc. And intro to our First Major Project.

YAY WE ARE BACK!!! YOU ROCK!!!

WELCOME BACK!!!!

Wow has summer already passed? It sure went by fast! This year is going to to be a blast and I hope you are ready! If you are reading this it's because you already know this page exists. If you aren't reading this now... then you will be :)

For our first week I am just basically wanting to get to know you and your skills. You'll get to know me as well. My Pre-AP kiddos will start the week fresh with their very first Summative grade. Details as to that will be posted later this week.

YAY.... ART ROCKS!!!!

See you all tomorrow!

Week of May 19

Final Exam Projects are underway starting today.
Both Art 1 & 2 will be doing a Progressive project. Each day, they will be given a new set of criteria. These will be Due May 30. Students are not allowed to take them home or they will receive a zero for their exam grade. To eliminate this from happening, I will collect them each day and redistribute them each day.

Are you Passing?

Reason I am asking this is because I am looking at the Drying rack and I still see paintings on there that were due a couple weeks ago. And I see several highlighted grades on the posted grade sheets, which means you are making something lower than an 80. We are in the home stretch children. We are all tired and ready for summer, but lets end the year with the knowledge that we PASSED ART!!!! If you are one that hadn't done the work because of various reasons, know that if you don't pass and have to retake this class, you'll have to endure all of the same projects that you decided not to do in the first place. That was a really long sentence.
So long story short- GET YOUR WORK TURNED IN!!! My motto still stands as, Something is better than Nothing. DON'T FAIL ART!

Week of Feb. 3

Just to get this out there. I feel like a real slacker. These past couple of weeks have been a blur for me as a teacher and I do apologize for my actions. I don't normally lag on time on getting things graded and entered. I had great intentions on getting projects graded this past weekend then forgot my things in the office as I left on Friday. OOPS...

Today I am remind students that their Scratchboards, Mirror Practices and Grid practice/Review is to be turned in today before they leave. I am working as quick as I can today to get caught up along with teaching/reviewing and prepping supplies for their current projects.

Both Art 1 & 2 are working on Portraits.
Art 1- are working with Pencil with pictures of themselves that I took myself and printed for them.
Art 2- are working on Charcoal Reverse Drawings with either pictures they took of themselves or of another person. If they don't have an image ready by now, they are losing participation and Homework credit. They've had a month to bring an image in or to e-mail it to me to print for them. They've been reminded every day.

Week of Jan 27

I'm hoping that everyone is well. What a great past couple of weeks. Students were excited to work on their Scratchboard Artwork which was due on Wednesday of last week. A few students were out for various reasons and weren't able to work on their work and get it turned in. Then we had a Snow day on Friday. Everyone will have the opportunity to get their work turned in  and if they need to still work on it they can come in for Tutoring to finish it.

GRADES. Grades have been updated as of today. As of today all that is in there are Weekly participation grades. I myself was out 2 days last week then out Friday and today, so I hadn't had a chance to go over what was done while the sub was here. So I will be a busy bee this week getting Summative grades and more participation grades into the gradebook. Then I will post grades for students to see what they are making and missing.

This week. We are getting into Portrait Mode. Students last week practiced drawing faces by looking at themselves in mirrors. This week I will go further into the lesson and teach how to draw features and how to make them look more realistic.

WELCOME BACK!!!!

Art 1 & 2 will be starting on Scratch Board. I will post details later this week.
Today they are practicing on scratch board getting used to the tools that will be used for this assignment.
Tomorrow they are to bring an image of choice in. With criteria involved (no cartoons, logos etc. )
If they do not have an image ready, I will be docking points from their participation grade.
If they don't have access to a printer at home, there is always the printers in the library, Eagles nest or if they email their image to me, I could print it for them. angela.caddell@killeenisd.org with Scratch Art Image in the Subject Line.
