Yep- I threw paint at my wall

A friend of mine gave me a book a couple of years ago called Wreck This Journal. Each page has instructions of what to do to that particular page. This page said to "Throw something at it dipped in paint" So the table I was sitting at had some paint and brushes and I thought- why not? I did clean up my mess and just a FYI, Dipped Paint brushes are not very Aero-dynamic.

That's how the Cookie Crumbles

Students have been scrambling today- Teachers dislike this week so much. It's the last week of the grading period. This is when students who haven't done what was required of them to make the passing grade, come pouring out of the woodwork, wanting to know what they can do to make up their failing grade. I have to remind them that I have posted grades twice within the last 3 weeks, and they have had plenty of opportunities to turn anything in. And get this- I actually allow them to finish or fix their work and turn it back in to make a higher grade, and students still don't get the picture that they CAN PASS MY CLASS!!!! And then they are wanting a regrade on their Daily Journals, when they were told that grades would be taken and posted by today. I gave them a reminder on Friday, October 12th and on Monday, October 15th to get weeks 1-7 completed. Verbal reminders, visual reminders.... how else can I remind.

So Please- REMEMBER for the 2nd 9 weeks. Please use your time wisely in my class, I give you plenty of time to get your work done in class and I allow missing work to be turned in without points deducted. There is no excuse to fail my class. I want you all to do well and learn to draw in the process.

Journal Check will start on Monday, October 15. I am only grading through Week 7. Completion grade. You could earn yourself a very nice FREE 100 for a Summative grade or you could not. Which would you like?

Those of you reading this, tell your friends!!! I asked again in each class for work that hadn't been turned in and I didn't get much turned in.

ANOTHER REMINDER!!!! THINGS THAT ARE STILL IN YOUR JOURNAL FOLDERS OR YOUR PORTFOLIOS ARE NOT CONSIDERED TO BE TURNED IN!!! YOUR WORK HAS TO BE PLACED IN MY TURN-IN TRAY BY MY DESK!!!

Impact Aid and Journals

Reminder that Impact Aid forms are to be returned no later than Friday, September 28th in order for your 2nd period to earn a Pizza Party. My Second period had a record breaking return today with 18/24 turned in. I'm hoping for my 3rd year in a row to receive the Pizza Party!!! And Congrats to you 18 who brought it back for your 4 FREE Minor Violations Pass. You will receive these in the morning.

JOURNALS!!!! Grade check on Journals started yesterday and I will be done tomorrow morning. I am looking at weeks 1-4 and giving a Formative Completion grade. Journals are to be done daily and if they are absent they are to get caught up. Week 1 and Monday & Tuesday of Week 2 can be found here on the blog under Journals or I have it printed in my Blog Binder. AND they can look in my personal binder to get caught up. No reason to fail this assignment. At the end of the 9 weeks, I will grade them again on Completion but that time it will be a Summative grade instead of a formative. So it's important to get it all completed.

Images Posted

I have just posted a sampling of the first assignment we did for this school year onto the Class Facebook Page. The assignment was called Circle Activity. Students were given a handout with 12 blank circles on it. They were to use their imagination and Artistic skills to fill in the circles. They were allowed to draw inside, outside or connect. Drawings also didn't have to be circular. This assignment helps me with the first few projects to see what my students are capable of. Since there aren't any "right" answers or an Answer Key to use when grading Art projects, I have to grade on talent and improvement.

Their grades have been posted into E-School and students will receive this handout back on Monday. It was graded as a completion grade. They will have an opportunity to finish this if they didn't and turn it back in. However, they won't be reminded.

Here is the Link to the album on the Class Facebook Page. Art de Caddell Circle Activity

Week of Sept. 4-7

Today students are putting together their Journals. Each day they will have something to do in them. Vocabulary words, Free sketches, Artist Quotes and Reflection. This will be a Summative grade at the end of each 9 week grading period.

Students will also be able to start on their first Project of the year. They will be drawing on their portfolios. They are encouraged to 'practice' first since they only get one posterboard.

Art One classes are doing a Free Form project. They are to freely draw lines on their posterboard, then they are to find images/objects within their lines. This will help them to think outside the box and to be creative.

Art Two classes are going to do a Creative Lettering Project. They are to write/draw out their names by using images or a form of Typography to form letters.
